Wiring the Shop - Power ON

43 I called my engineer buddy at the power company and left a message I had it ready to go.  I didn't hear from him for a day and called again.  Later that afternoon I went up to the shop and noticed the power was hooked up.  I didn't see the truck, but they had come and gone, leaving me with a working meter.  Nothing had exploded or was buzzing loudly.  I was ready to hook up my lights on the inside and begin to power up my machines.  

I checked the voltage with my meter and I had a solid 245 volts across the two hots and 125 Volts between each hot and ground.

I wired in the welder first.  And then I took the wires from the previous owner next door and rewired them into my new panel so I could have lights and wall outlets working again.  I will begin to wire in new lights and outlets as I have the time.

The next big step for the electricity install is the phase converter.  I will have to get a 3 phase panel to put in above the single phase box from which to run 3 phase circuits for the moulder and 3 phase table saw.  I should also have room to wire in the 3-phase electric powerhead for the M7.

The circuit for the phase converter will look like this:

   200 amp Main has a 100 amp circuit breaker in it that feeds the phase converter.(two hots and ground)

   The phase converter then produces a third hot (T3) and we feed the 3 hots and ground to the 3 phase panel.        

    Then from this panel we route circuits to the individual machines.

The main parts are in place now for shop.  The power source, supply panels, and main breakers.  I can start moving in equipment and getting my circuits in place to power them up!

Other major components of the shop to be installed - compressed air and a chip collection system.
